Calling all budding poets, poetry novices or anyone in-between! Dr. John Cooper Clarke is offering you a chance to open live for his London Eventim Apollo date! To celebrate World Poetry Day (21st March) and ahead of his much-anticipated UK tour, ‘I Wanna Be Yours’, this is a one off opportunity for those with a passion for the pen. Fancy entering to have the man himself select your poem as the winning submission? We want entrants to submit their own interpretation of JCC’s tour theme, ‘I Wanna Be Yours.’ Whether it be a slick limerick, free verse or sonnet, all submissions must use that same title and the rest is up to them. Entrants must turn their submissions in by 30th March. lucky winner will open for John Cooper Clarke himself on his Eventim Apollo date, and receive a hotel stay in London’s bustling west end.

John’s new show is a breath-taking showcase of poetry and spoken work, sharing stories from his incredible life and hugely successful career. Dr John Cooper Clarke will take you on an incredible journey with pieces from the new book, poems (old and new) and his usual musings, off the wall chat, riffs, gags and wicked humour.

John’s 2021 memoir, released by Picador, explores his extraordinary life, filled with remarkable personalities: from Nico to Chuck Berry; Bernard Manning to Linton Kwesi Johnson; Elvis Costello to Gregory Corso; Mark E. Smith to Gil Scott Heron and Joe Strummer and on to more recent fans and collaborators like Alex Turner, Plan B and Guy Garvey. Interspersed with stories of his rock and roll and performing career, John also reveals his mind-boggling encyclopaedic take on popular culture over the centuries: from Baudelaire and Edgar Allan Poe, to Pop Art, pop music, the movies, fashion, football and show business – with more than a few laughs along the way.
