Wet Leg, Wolf Alice and more nominated for NME Awards

Today, the nominees for the NME Awards have been revealed. Sam Fender, Little Simz, Wolf Alice and Wet Leg dominate the nominations, whilst there are also places for Inhaler, Rina Sawayama, Dave and many more on the list. 

Sam Fender finds himself nominated for several awards, following the release of his sophomore album Seventeen Going Under, which rocketed to number one following its release. Sam is nominated for Best Album in the World, Best Album by a UK Artist, Best Song in the World, Best Song by a UK Artist, Best Solo Act in the World and Best Solo Act from the UK. He will also be heading on his biggest ever UK tour later this year. 

Little Simz’s Sometimes I Might Be Introvert was one of the most widely-praised releases of 2021. The rapper is up for Best Album in the World, Best Album by a UK Artist, Best Live Act, Best Solo Act in the World and Best Solo Act from the UK. 

Wolf Alice released their third album, Blue Weekend, last year, which scored them their first ever UK number one album. The quartet are nominated for Best Album in the World, Best Album by a UK Artist, Best Festival Headliner, Best Band in the World and Best Band from the UK. 

Wet Leg’s ‘Chaise Longue’ saw them become the most talked about new band of 2021. With their debut album set for release in April, as well as a sold-out UK tour, the duo are set to build on this momentum. They are up for Best Song in the World, Best Song by a UK Artist (both for ‘Chaise Longue’), Best New Act in the World, Best New Act from the UK and Best Music Video, also for ‘Chaise Longue’. 

CHVRCHES top off another brilliant year for the band with a whole host of nominations, including Best Song in the World and Best Song by a UK Artist for their collaboration with Robert Smith. They are also up for Best Festival Headliner, Best Band in the World and Best Band from the UK. 

Rina Sawayama caught everyone’s attention in 2021 with her multisensory live shows full of intense choreography and blaring lights. It’s no surprise then that she’s up for Best Live Act as well as Best Solo Act in the World, Best Solo Act from the UK and Best Collaboration for her song with Elton John. 

Charli XCX is also recognised for her song ‘Good Ones’, with nominations for Best Song in the World and Best Song by a UK Artist, meanwhile Olivia Rodrigo is also up for Best Song in the World (‘Good 4 U’) as well as Best New Act in the World following a break-out year. 

Billie Eilish returned in 2021, her sophomore album Happier Than Ever one of the most anticipated records of the year. The album’s title track has been honoured with ‘Best Music Video’, while Billie is also up for Best Festival Headliner and Best Solo Act in the World. 

Glass Animals are also in the mix for Best Band in the World and Best Band from the UK, while Dave is vying for Best Solo Act from the UK and Best Solo Act in the World. 

BERWYN, Bree Runway, Inhaler and Tems are also nominated for Best New Act in the World. While BERWYN is also nominated for Best New Act from the UK, and Best Mixtape, with Bree Runway also nominated for Best New Act and Central Cee nominated for Best Mixtape. 

Also nominated are Lorde (Best Song in the World), IDLES (Best Live Act), Liam Gallagher (Best Festival Headliner), Amyl and the Sniffers (Best Band in the World), Griff and Sigrid (Best Collaboration), Years & Years (Best TV Series, Best TV Actor), Foals (Best Music Video), Dave Grohl (Best Music Book), Bobby Gillespie (Best Music Book) and Table Manners (Best Podcast).
