#8YearsofLittleMix: 8 Iconic Moments

Share:

Since 2011, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall have not only established themselves as one of British pop’s brightest acts, but as a global pop phenomenon. They have fully cemented their status as the world’s biggest girl band, with the quartet asserting dominance in the charts album after album. This year celebrates their 8th year together, so here are 8 iconic milestones and moments that we’ll never forget!

8. The silver numbers performed in at the 2017 Brit Awards

Known for their extravagant costumes, the metallic look worn during their performance at the 2017 Brit Awards show is definitely one of our favourites. Matched with platinum hair, each member’s outfit was uniquely styled and the performance itself perfectly fitted the futuristic theme.

In May 2014, the rising popstars headlined London’s O2 Arena for the first time to a 20,000 people – a full house! Since then, they’ve played the largest venue in the UK many times as multiple dates are usually added to the same tour due to demand.

5. The empowering ‘Strip’ music video

Little Mix are strong feminists and the music video for their sassy single ‘Strip’ truly shows this. Not only do the lyrics read “Jiggle all this weight, yeah, you know I love all of this / Finally love me naked, sexiest when I’m confident”,  but for the video they gathered inspiring women of all ages, colours and sizes together to show that beauty is diverse. These include author Dina Torkia, activist Nimco Ali, YouTuber Hannah Witton, model Maxim Magnus and rapper Sharaya J; the latter also featuring on the track. The video closes on a still image of the girls poses naked with insults written all over their bodies, stripping them of their derogatory meanings.

4. Winning Their First Ever Award

In 2013, Cosmo quite rightly named the four women their ‘Ultimate Exports’ at their Ultimate Women of the Year Awards ceremony. In their acceptance speech, they said “This is so overwhelming, we can’t even believe that we’re standing here right now. This is our first award we’ve ever won… we’re getting emotional! […] We feel like we’re getting there now. We’re absolutely chuffed to bits, thank you so much!”

3. Going Number 1

Their third album Glory Days has been their most successful release to date as it smashed into the number one spot in November 2016. It features hit singles ‘Shout Out To My Ex’, ‘Touch’ and ‘No More Sad Songs’, and is not certified triple Platinum!

  1. 2. Forming on X Factor

After entering the competition as solo artists in 2011, the four-piece were put together by the judges as they were all just too good to send home. They were taken under Tulisa’s wing as the Groups’ mentor and briefly went under the name Rhythmix but changed their name a couple of weeks later during the show.

1. Winning X Factor

On 11th December 2011, Little Mix were declared the winners of X Factor! Up against Marcus Collins, they stole the show with their stunning performances of ‘Don’t Let Go (Love)’ by En Vogue, the Christmas carol ‘Silent Night’, and ‘Cannonball’ by Damien Rice . The rest is history…
