Named one of BBC’s Sounds of 2018, Sam Fender is a musician with very open eyes about what is going on in the world. He is an artist that has realised there are too many other, more important, things to write about than just love. Instead he focusses on things that are affecting society, what subjects need to be talked about. Which is why lyrics to his songs include government surveillance, sexual harassment and the very popular phrase, ‘fake news’.
His latest song and first taste of his upcoming E.P is no different. After being signed to Polydor Records, Sam kept rising in his song writing ability. ‘Dead Boys’ is about male suicide, a subject blasted into the media’s attention in the past year. The single has gained a hugely welcomed, loving reception since its release and was made Annie Mac’s ‘Hottest Record In The World’. It was then named Amazing Radio’s Single of the Week and BBCR1’s Tune of the Week, with Clash Magazine describing it as ‘bold, as stark as they come’.
‘Dead Boys’ received endless appreciation on social media, with fans and suicide awareness charities sharing the song with personal messages and advice. Sir Elton John even played the track on his Beats 1 Radio Show this past weekend.
Sam Fender’s music is now becoming incredibly noticeable to those within the industry, and to create more excitement, his 2017 single ‘Play God’ was announced as part of FIFA 19’s playlist at the beginning of this month.
Upon announcing his UK/European Tour, both London shows sold out in an instant, but Sam went ahead and became the first artist to play the Omeara (London) for three nights in a row.
Sam will be touring all over the UK, starting October 29th in Edinburgh, finishing at home in Newcastle on the 17th November. He will also be supporting Blossoms on their Glasgow and London dates in December.
