London-born singer-songwriter Freya Ridings has been featured for the second time as Record of The Day’s chosen track with her beautiful single ‘Lost Without You’. It was first chosen in November 2017, with the online magazine stating that its very rare that they feature the same song twice, highlighting the emotional intensity that stays with you.
The self-released song which came out in late 2017 is a minor piano ballad that cuts to the core. Using minimal melodies to emphasize the powerful of her recognisable soft, raspy vocals, ‘Lost Without You’ creates a ambient yet daunting atmosphere. On its subject, Ridings says “I wrote ‘Lost Without You’ as a time capsule of a moment that changed my life. I wanted to capture the intense feeling of regret in a cinematic style.”
The emotive song hit the number one spot as the most Shazamed on ITV2 after it was played on Love Island and was searched for over 20,000 times. It has also now reached over 17 million plays on Spotify and is currently at #13 in the iTunes Charts.
The 23-year-old released her debut single ‘Blackout’ in May 2017 which was highly praised by the likes of The Sunday Times and Clash. Such media support resulted in the formation of her dedicated fanbase who saw her first two London shows as well as UK tour selling out. This then lead to support slots alongside the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Ray LaMontagne and Tears For Fears that same year.
With masses of live experience now under her belt, this one-to-watch will embark on another UK tour this October. Her critically acclaimed shows, which the Independent have referred to as “poignant” and “ethereal” will take place at Oxford O2 Academy 2, Manchester Dancehouse and Birmingham O2 Institute 3.
