ANNE-MARIE:
Anne-Marie has enjoyed a great first year on the scene as she has had her hit ‘Rockabye’ with Clean Bandit, being a huge hit in the UK being #1 for many weeks, and retaining the spot to claim the 2016 Christmas #1! Her rise to success has also been confirmed by the release of her own single, ‘Alarm’, peaking at #16 in the UK charts, and achieving a huge 100 million Spotify streams to date. I believe that her style, music and personality really make her the star she is, very bold and also very exciting to see evolve to a star. This nomination is the recognition she deserves, and she is a worthy nominee for the Essex born singer, who has already completed a UK tour in November of 2016.
SKEPTA:
This man has had a HUGE year, with huge festival performances across the UK and world, in particular at WILD LIFE + PARKLIFE. He has a stunning presence when on stage and his ability to generate such a hype at gigs has enabled the rise of grim music to be fast and powerful. This was clear also as the London Born Grime artist won the Mercury Music Prize for his album, ‘KONICHIWA’ for 2016. The album received a massive response and was peaked at #2 in the UK charts, and receive supremely positive critical reviews. His popularity has also become clear with a sold out night at Alexandra Palace in London, selling out in one day and selling 9,500 tickets.
BLOSSOMS:

BLOSSOMS smashed 2016, with the announcement of a huge UK tour, achieving a #1 album for the album entitled ‘BLOSSOMS’ and spreading there wings across European territories. The band are the only representatives from the North of England, Stockport to be exact, as the rest of the nominees are all based South! It feels like they are holding the fort on behalf of the North of England. Yet the band are now a national success, and their continuous efforts and ability to create such fluid and strong indie music makes them a band that I expect will only go onto bigger and better things in the future with the fan base and the music they create.
Stormzy is an example of an artist that is helping to spread the word about diversity and also equality within music. He has done a fantastic job with doing this and he has given a representation to all artists in the world that fairness is key to succeed. The star has achieved a year full of success with his single ‘SHUT UP’ helping to catapult him to national success, and create a huge excitement for the anticipated new, and first studio album of his in 2017. Not only has he gained publicity this way, but also huge performances at V Festival in 2016 displayed the magnitude of his popularity with crowds of 45,000+ AT BOTH Stafford and Chelmsford across the weekend. He is an artist that has risen in a rapid space of time, and his previous 2 MOBO award winnings in 2014+2015 show he isn’t a stranger to award success…. And is certainly a favourite in the race for the British Breakthrough award at the Brits.
RAG’n’BONE MAN:
This man doesn’t need too much of an introduction to the Brits as he has won an award, the ‘Brits Critics Choice Award 2017’. He deserves this accolade after a few years on the scene locally in Brighton notably, yet the Sussex born man has had a 2016 to remember, with his single ‘HUMAN’ being a smash across Europe. The song reached #2 in the UK charts, yet sales went GOLD in 7 European countries, including Germany and Italy. This man doesn’t seem to be slowing up either as his Tour coming up in 2017 has already SOLD OUT. The man is a machine in terms of his drive to continue his success for many years to come, and I am sure his anticipated new album won’t disappoint as his soulful and rugged voice appears to be catching the ears of a multitude of fans. This man is certainly ma worthy nominee, and it’s safe to say that this definitely won’t be his last visit to the brits if he continues his powerful and also building worldwide success.
