The band split in 2007 but returned and wowed crowds with their comeback appearances in Spring/Summer 2013, most notably their slot at Parklife Weekender in Manchester. And now J5 are well and truly back as next month will see Jurassic 5 embarking on their ONLY UK headline dates this year! CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS & INFO.
J5, made up of Charli 2na (the best voice in Hip-Hop), Akil, Mark 7even, DJ Nu-Mark and Cut Chemist first formed in 1993 and their eponymous self-tilted full length album came out in 1998 propelling them to the forefront of the growing scene. J5 became known for never shying away from tackling political and social issues in their lyrics. Their style of rap could be likened to a barbershop quartet specialising in a tight style, not so much close harmony but close rap taking it in turns to rhyme different verses. J5 are an act for everyone limiting their swearing and keeping their lyrics positive in a rap scene often dominated by an aggressive tone of voice.
J5 will be joined by huge underground act Dilated Peoples for their Brixton show who saw notoriety in the UK with “This Way” (Feat. Kanye West) and “Worst Comes to Worst” both making their way into the Top 40 chart. Dilated Peoples will also play their own headline show in June at London Scala.. CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS.
Their other shows will feature another legendary Hip-Hop group Ugly Duckling. After more than 20 UK National tours and major festival appearances, they are set to bring their late 80’s/early 90’s soul and funk infused humour hip-hop to warm-up for what will surely be one of the most anticipated tours of the summer.
