Gigs And Tours spent 5 minutes chatting with Multi-BRIT and MOBO Award winner Lemar ahead of his upcoming December UK tour…

What are you up to at this very moment?
Preparing tour set list and talking about versions of my next single. (But RIGHT now I’m answering these questions.)

What can fans expect to experience at one of your shows?
Anyone who’s been to any of my shows know I give 100%. Energy, good sound and a lot of singing along. This one is going to be a very raw gig. No frill. Just great musicians and a good vibe. A huge…. jamming session.

What is your favourite song to perform live?

‘If There’s Any Justice’ has to be one of the biggest sing along songs. A very big range of people love the song so – it would have to be up there.

When you’re not performing what do you do to keep yourself busy when you’re on tour / on the road?
When I’m not performing I’m reading or trying to exercise… or I’m messing around with a gadget or online. I’m a bit of a gadget freak.

You’ve played a lot of great festivals, which was the best so far?

I really loved playing at V Festival. From the stage you can really feel the energy of the people. I love performing at festivals because of that raw atmosphere and the amount of people. It’s a good rush.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever played?
The best gig I’ve ever played was probably my ‘The Reason’ tour at Royal Albert Hall. It was amazing. The place is built to give the performer and the punter the best sound and experience and it lived up to all my expectations. Brilliant.

What was the first gig you ever went to?
The first gig I ever went to was by a female R’n’B group called ‘Total’. I only went by chance as a last minute thing. It was at Hammersmith Palace. I remember staying right at the back just soaking it all in thinking… I wonder if I’ll ever get to do that. Guess the answer is yes.

Will you be playing any new material or a mixture of your back catalogue?

During my December gigs I’ll be doing all my best known songs and a few new ones. It’ll be a celebration of the last 10 years and a great opportunity to remind my fans of the journey. From ‘Dance With You’ all the way to ‘Invincible’. Can’t wait!

Which other artists are you listening to at the moment?
I like what Emeli Sande has been doing. Lovely songwriting. I think Wiley has had a good year too. Some catchy songs there. Ed Sheeran, Sway, Azealia Banks, FUN, Gotye… There have been quite a few good songs.

Which song do you wish you had written?
The one song I really wish I had written is… ‘Sexual Healing’ by Marvin Gaye.

Also… ‘Ordinary People’ – John Legend

Great songs.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

At the moment… Azealia Banks. I think she’s got a good voice in there. Would be an interesting mix.

Plans for the rest of the year?
Plans for the rest of the year… Gig… Hopefully stop at some point… then new single and more shows in 2013! A lot of exciting prospects.
