Last night saw the return of the Glenfidditch Mojo Awards. The ceremony, which is hosted by the magazine, brings you all the biggest and best names in the Indie world.
Soul singer Rumer scooped the ‘Breakthrough Award’ after what has been an unbeliveable year for her. So far she has released her debut album ‘Seasons Of My Soul’, which sold over half a million copies in the UK alone, sold out several venues, played at Glastonbury and Latitude and headlined the iTunes Festival. She has such a soft yet powerful voice which can’t help touch anyone who listens. Mojo editor Phil Alexander said of Rumer ‘”It has been a remarkable 12 months for Rumer. It’s all about the songs with her. That’s what’s made Seasons of My Soul one of the biggest-selling British albums in recent memory.” With such high praise coming from above she’s set to make it big anytime soon, and after the years of struggle which she has faced to get to where she is now she more than deserves it. Catch this musical wonder on tour in November!
Arguably the biggest band in Britain, Arctic Monkeys won yet another award for the bathroom shelf, picking up ‘Best Album Of The Year’ at lasts night awards for their brilliant new album ‘Suck It And See’. You may have read my blog a few weeks ago on the Sheffield lads (If you didn’t then what have you been doing?!) singing their praises on the new album, it’s a real treat for the ears. Ever the avid Arctic’s fan I can’t wait to see them at the V Festival in August and also 0n tour this Winter!!
Other winners last night included Primal Scream who won ‘Classic Album Award’ for ‘Screamadelica’, Beatles legend Ringo Starr who picked up the ‘Icon Award’ and ‘Song Of The Year’ winners Grinderman with ‘Heathen Child’.
