Prestigious awards ceremony ‘The Mercury Prize’ is back again with a hot new list of nominees. It is considered the ultimate honor to even be nominated and is famed for sending the said artists career sky high.

Chart dominating Adele has been nominated for the second time, the first being for her debut album ’19’, and now for her platinum selling album ’21’. She is being tipped as the favourite to win and no wonder! The flawless Brit has been jumping from success to success since she burst onto the music scene in 2008. She faces fierce competition from previous winners Elbow, whom she lost out to 3 years ago.
Musical chameleon PJ Harvey is also up for the award for her critically acclaimed album ‘Let England Shake’. The hybrid genre artist is no stranger to The Mercury Prize awards, having won in 2001 with the beautiful album ‘Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea’. I can’t wait to catch her in Manchester in September!!
With a huge spotlight being shone on Urban artists this year it would be no shock if new girl Katy B walked away with the prize. The Brit School graduate is up for the award with her debut album ‘On A Mission’, which debuted at number 2 in the UK. With The Guardian calling her ‘A pop star in her own right’ and NME declaring ‘She’s the British pop debut of the year’, expect big things from Miss B!

It’s going to be a tough competition with other nominees including: Anna Calvi, Everything Everything, Ghostpoet, Gwilym Simcock, James Blake, King Creosote & Jon Hopkins, Metronomy and Tinie Tempah. With such a wide variety of artists who knows who will come out on top!
