Interview with… Plain White T’s

After nearly 3 years of being away from the music scene the
PLAIN WHITE T’S
are back with their brand new album Big Bad World but best of all they are performing in London on the 13th October. I won a competition and got to speak to the drummer De ‘Mar himself!

Nervous but excited, the phone rung and off I went…

”You are on to your 4th album now what’s your favourite song and why?” He said his favourite song was Natural Disaster because it had a more sort of mature sound to it.

Always wanting to know, I asked where the name Plain White T’s came from. He said that the band had written down a list of band names and the name Plain White T’s was on the list. They realised that the name relates to everyone in the band because they all wear ‘plain white T-shirts’ – I have to say that is one of the most genius names for a band.

Noticing how their music has grown between albums, I asked…Your sound has changed over time, is this consciously or a reflection of where you were at that time in your lives? He said that as the band have got older and matured it was sort of like their music should go in the same direction…

So many stars say that nerves are hard to overcome – some pray, some exercise, but I was intrigued to know how the PWT’s tackle them…What do you do to get rid of your nerves before you perform and go on stage? “Some of the guys have a few beers but I don’t really get nervous because once I get on stage it’s so good that all the nerves just sort of go away…

Now for my winning question, which landed me the opportunity in the first place…What’s the best experience you’ve had as a band? Everything we have done has just been the best experience, there isn’t really a favourite just being in the band is the best experience. With such a humbling I also asked if sometimes he thinks ‘wow I’m actually living my dream’ he said yeah sometimes you get those times when you think I’m actually living my dream.

I am now looking forward to their London show at the O2 Academy in Islington more than ever….Let’s hope they give me a wave!

A MASSIVE THANKS TO OUR COMPETITION WINNER AND GUEST BLOGGER VANZ MADDIX!
